But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. Isaiah 40:31 NIV
Why are we attracted to those who are our opposites? We are attracted to their strengths and what we lack in our lives. But when does loving the great attention to detail change into irritation when they try to help you organize something?
I challenge you today to make a list of strengths that you celebrate about the one you love. There may be hidden ones behind the ones that are overused and have become weaknesses. Here’s a great quote that helps with this: (not sure who to credit so I guess I’ll take it)
“Any strength taken to an extreme becomes a weakness.”
Here’s a great example:
Do you have different styles of cleaning the house? Does one of you like things picked up immediately and ‘fuss’ about things being a mess? Celebrate their organizational skills and ask for help is you are the messy one.
Celebrating this strength would sound like this: “I honor you ability to bring chaos into order. I am grateful you in my life because you help me clear up the clutter and see what is really important in our lives. I love that you maintain the proper order in all things (1 Corinthians 14:40 VOICE).”
What strengths do you celebrate and honor? Embrace your own strengths and see where you might be taking them to an extreme? If you live with someone who is at what you feel in an extreme, look at their perspective and embrace that strength. Find a scripture to honor it and realize that they are a gift in your life.
Prayer
Thank You, Lord, for putting _____________ in my life. I love how we complement one another and bring out the best in each other. I ask that you grant me the ability to see their perspective in life. I choose to honor and embrace their strengths in order to find a balance in my own world. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
