“Be aware that when you are critical you have lost hope. Instead, encourage as you look forward to breakthroughs for a good future. Speak life-giving hope.” The Hope Lady

One of the greatest gifts you can give this year is to make a conscious decision to eliminate criticism from your thought process. It’s so easy to fall into a habit of expressing the things that you do not like about any given situation. In fact, people gather around the platforms of what they are against. They offer up their opinion and give away their power to make a difference in the situation.

Hope Tools

Reframe the situation

When you realize that criticism and hope cannot coexist in the same thought process you can reframe any given situation. Hope focuses on breakthroughs and positive change. When someone has hurt you or made a decision that you do not understand you jump to conclusions about their motivation.

Everyone is fighting a battle of one sort or another.

This is the best tool to help you reframe. Ask for perspective about what the other person is going through. It doesn’t mean that you justify what they’ve done wrong; it simply means that you view them through a ‘hope lens’ that allows you to make the room for God to work in their lives and, mainly, in your own heart with compassion and God’s purpose for everyone involved.

Prayer

Thank You, Lord that You are working in everyone involved in the difficult situations of our lives. I am so grateful that You are at work even when I can’t see the evidence of what You are doing. I trust Your plan in it all. I ask Your blessing on those who have done things that I feel are wrong. I am so grateful that I am not responsible for their actions. I only need to focus on my own response. I place that focus on You because You are the Author and Finisher of my faith. Thank You for the difficulties that bring me to my knees and to a better understanding of Your love and mercy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
