I am thankful that I have learned how to count my blessings because it places me in a place where I can receive hope, faith and love.

There’s an old hymn of the church called, “Count Your Blessings.”

It goes like this:

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
  • Chorus:
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
*Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
[*And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.]
I love this song because it reminds us to be focusing on the blessings even in the dark times. God is working in the background even when you have no idea what he is up to.

Expand Your Blessings Frame

What defines a blessing for you? Are there any hidden blessings from tough times you have been through that have caused you to grow and become more compassionate? Blessings may come disguised as hard work too. Blessings may come as difficult people. Blessings may come as getting fired from the job you disliked so much. Let trust stretch our blessings frame.

Keep Counting and Keep Expanding the List

November is a great month to be grateful, but what about the rest of the year? Keep on counting. It may be really little things that are a blessing. How about the way the leaves fall during that season. How about a smile on the face of a parent as they watch their little one? The list can go on and on. Be creative and watch your heart expand with your life.

Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for expanding my ‘blessings frame’ to include even those things that may not seem so great right now. You are a wonderful, loving Father and I know that even those things that may seem hard now will turn out for good. You are the abundant provider and in You I can live a victorious and glorious life. You continually surprise me and I am thankful. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
