God’s FAITHFULNESS will form a shield around you, a rock-solid wall to PROTECT you. Psalm 91:4 Voice

Psalm 91 could be called the Caregiver’s Psalm. It refers over and over to the protection of the Lord for those who need it the most. Here are the first four verses that you can claim in the midst of the caregiving marathon:

He who takes refuge in the shelter of the Most High

will be safe in the shadow of the Almighty.
He will say to the Eternal, “My shelter, my mighty fortress,
my God, I place all my trust in You.”
For He will rescue you from the snares set by your enemies who entrap you
    and from deadly plagues.
Like a bird protecting its young, God will cover you with His feathers,
    will protect you under His great wings;
His faithfulness will form a shield around you, a rock-solid wall to protect you.

It is important to find a safe place to vent and find sound advice. This can be difficult to find. Here are some HOPE Tools to assist you in finding a safe place.

Hope Tools

Evaluate you current network

Who is your venting partner? How close are they to the caregiver? So often we don’t really feel better after venting especially if the one to whom we are speaking agrees that our situation is terrible as in the ‘end of the world’. I’m not talking about refusing to acknowledge the challenges you’re facing. What I am saying is that sometimes we need to find someone who can gently guide us to gratitude and seeking God’s shelter in this storm.

Expand your circle

Take the time to find those who truly understand your situation and have come through it with grace and courage. Read articles for caregivers and books about the challenges you face. It helps to know you are not alone in what you feel.

Make a list of gratitude points

It’s seems easier to complain than to choose hope. Choose hope and look for the hope rays behind the dark clouds you face. This is a passage way that will not last the rest of your life. From this Psalm you can find many things for which to be grateful such as how God covers you and protects you. Model your prayers after the one below in which you will thank God for what He declares in His Word.

Prayer

Lord, I thank You that I can take refuge in Your shelter. I am so thankful that I can be safe in Your shadow. This is such a good place to run to when I feel overwhelmed. God thank you that you are my shelter and that I can put all my trust in You. I will never be disappointed when I come to you because you are a mighty fortress for all the emotions and anxious thoughts that are raging through my mind. Thank You that you rescue from all the traps that would want to bring me down to the point of getting sick. I claim protection from all the worries that plague me. I love the image of You covering me with Your feathers so I am protected. Feathers are soft and bring laughter.  Thank You for allowing me to find humor in my current situation as I press in to Your feathers. I now that you are ever faithful to form a shield around me. I can stand on your rock-solid protection and not be moved. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
