Finding Flowers in the Weeds and Joy in Dark Places
“You did it: You turned my deepest pains into joyful dancing;
You stripped off my dark clothing and covered me with joyful light.” Psalm 30:11 VOICE
Psalm 30 has been one of my favorite chapters in my journey of mourning since my husband’s move to Heaven almost four years ago. I so relate to the pit that David refers to and the despair that grips him at the very core of his being.
Grieving can be a particularly lonely season as you grasp the significance of a new identity and a new purpose in your life.
I have discovered that the ability to enjoy small things carries life-giving power to transform.
If you are grieving, allow God to change your perspective to blessings in the mourning (morning).
Here are a few things that I have discovered change my perspective:
- Go for a walk and take a few pictures of the wild flowers in the midst of the weeds.
- Look up in expectations of hope rays when the dark clouds appear.
- Release the expectations of what your life was ‘supposed to be’ and embrace your ‘new normal.’
- Enjoy tears of release and embrace the comfort of the One who truly understands.
- Laugh with the little ones in your life.
What activities help you regain your focus on what you have rather than what you do not have?
