I feel conviction every time I read this familiar verse because I realize that I am truly hanging on to many parts of my life or at least of the life I wish I were living. In this world of Social Media where everyone puts their best foot forward, it can seem that our own lives pale in comparison as we try to measure up.
This verse shows another side of our lives as seen through God’s lens. On this Monday morning it can seem like we would rather just pull the covers over our heads and go back to sleep. Instead, we get up and serve others.
Those who will truly get the most out of their lives will be those who recklessly abandon themselves to love others expecting nothing in return but the joy of serving others. Not a popular message yet one that rings true. Lay down your expectations, serve with abandon and see what happens to your life.
I love the Message translation that says that this backward approach to living our lives will result in having it forever, real and eternal.
