Longevity Secrets from the Life of Bill Pritchett
Let the word of Christ live in you richly, flooding you with all wisdom. Apply the Scriptures as you teach and instruct one another with the Psalms, and with festive praises, and with prophetic songs given to you spontaneously by the Spirit, so sing to God with all your hearts! Colossians 3:16 TPT
On one of our daily calls, Dad said, “I think I’m losing it.”
“What do you mean, Daddy?” I asked.
“Well, now that your Mom’s not here to check me, I’m struggling with remembering what’s in Ezekiel 39,” he replied with sadness.
I started laughing as I said, “I don’t even know that, so I guess I can’t remember it either.”
We chuckled together and went on to talk about something else.
Years ago, Dad decided to learn the contents of the Bible. He did it using the Spanish Bible and memorizing the divisions in each chapter. The only books that he skipped were Psalms, Proverbs and Song of Solomon because they were repetitive.
The memorization method Dad used was one shared by Missionary Dick Scott in a small booklet called It’s in the Corner. The concept was to place what you want to remember in the corners of the houses with which you are familiar. He worked faithfully and consistently on this project throughout his entire life and would ask us to check his accuracy.
I firmly believe that this daily mental exercise gave Dad the gift of a sharp mind until his last breath on this earth. On the first of each month he would go through the contents of the first chapter of all the books of the Bible (except those listed above). He would continue through the last day of the month.
He worked on getting someone to pick up the baton and do it. Several have started but none have had the consistent follow through that he had. I challenge you today to memorize scriptures and expand the mental capacities you have.
Longevity Secret #14:
Work on memory projects consistently as this will keep you from believing that forgetfulness is part of the aging process. Get others to help you in your quest to memorize scripture.

Wow! That’s so cool he memorized the book.
Right?!?!?!?!? He inspires us all to become memory champions.
So good! It certainly helps to be intentional! (Also – you had me at Col 3:16! I wrote about that this week in our Colossians study!)
And I loved that post. Yes, Colossians is an amazing blessing! Thanks for stopping by.
