Mom and Dad served as evangelists for a short season.

When we were growing up the verb “pioneer” was used to describe those who went out to start churches. As part of those trained to evangelize the world they seemed fearless in their abandon to reach out to others.

Dad tells of driving from California to Texas in this trailer. In the middle of no-where two of the tires blew out. They did not have the money to get them fixed. When someone came along and gave them a ride, they went to the closest town where Dad found work and they were able to complete their trip.

They started a Bible School in the Amarillo, Texas  church and then in the countries where they were missionaries. They knew that the secret was to teach others all that they knew.

Dad traveled a lot to southern area of Costa Rica called the Banana Zone because of the Chiquita banana plantations there. He went into areas where there were no road but there were churches. He carried a rolled up foam mattress to make the floor or the wooden bench a more comfortable place to sleep. He joked about this being his true missionary work.

We visited the 60th convention for the Foursquare Churches in Costa Rica. Many young people came up to Dad and wanted to take a selfie with him because they remembered the stories their parents and grandparents had told them about Don Guillermo. He truly was a trailblazer for the Kingdom of God.
