Longevity Secrets from the Life of Bill Pritchett
A joyful, cheerful heart brings healing to both body and soul. But the one whose heart is crushed struggles with sickness and depression. Proverbs 17:22 TPT
In preparation for Dad’s 99th birthday, we took him to get a new sports coat. He was fussing a little about how the ones he had were still good but then decided to have a little fun while we were out.
The young lady at the check-out register was amazed at his energy and strength when she found out his age.
“Sir, what’s your secret to living such a long life,” she asked.
“Well, you see, a few years back the Lord look down on my beautiful wife and told the angels, ‘I think she’s ready to come Home,” he started explaining.
“And that is exactly what happened. She went to be with the Lord,” he continued.
“Then the good Lord looked at me and turned to one of the angels and said, ‘Let’s give Bill a little bit longer to get it right,'” he finished.
This is one of so many memories of his sense of humor. He had a dry wit and would sometimes be ‘corny’ as he came up with his play on words or puns.
He loved to tell hilarious stories where the humor was at his own expense. Like the time in Costa Rica that he was trying to economize as he went down a windy mountainous road in the old Volkswagen van. He turned off the engine as he coasted down only to discover that the motor had dropped out somewhere along the way.
One day he said to me, “You know, being deaf isn’t really all that bad. Once I find out what they want to talk about, then I get to do all the talking.”
Longevity Secret #21:
Develop a sense of humor from the experiences of your life. Others will laugh because they relate to the struggles and victory you have gained and in that way nothing is ever wasted.
